The men and women of the Westerly Police Department continue to work with community leaders and its citizens to provide outstanding service to the Town of Westerly. Continued participation and involvement has proven to be effective in deterring criminal activity and ensuring the safety of the community.

The Westerly Police Department was founded in 1873 under Chief Charles H. Chapman along with four patrolmen. Today, the department is staffed with forty-nine full time sworn officers and 14 civilian support staff.
